The Creative Magical Practice
When I am ready to make big changes in my life, or patterns of living, I typically perform a threshold ritual. A sort of door making practice. This seems to work best for large internal changes. While sigil magic and candle magic and the like tend to work like passive magnets that draw in the desired results- the threshold requires an active and fundamental choice from the operator. Here’s how it works:
Build a door. Create in your mind, or draw it in the air, or build a frame or passage. Through that door is the life you are trying to build. Know this. Know that the person you will be on the other side is not the person you are now. Everything you are on on this side of the door stays on this side of the door.
ask yourself: ‘Am I ready to have this life - Right Now?’
If you can answer yes- then step through the door and close it behind you. There is no turning back
Creating this mental threshold is important as it focuses the mind on the permanence of the choice being made. We may say to ourselves that we are “truly ready to have our desire” but when faced with the actual threshold of that desire it becomes obvious if we are truly ready
Am I afraid of getting what I want?
When I was first learning the art of magic I was very risk averse. I treated every spell as if I was working with a devil who would twist my every desire into something terrible- I came to see that I was simply afraid of obtaining what I wanted. I used this ritual to enter a world where I was confident and capable of taking risks with my rituals and magic.
After I stepped through that door I began to work on magic the way I would work on other arts- with flair and creativity! An important aspect to making the spell connect with me. This I believe was instrumental in becoming a more effective operator.
I needed a good solid foundation to work from though, so I had to spend those years simply studying and matching the styles and patterns of previous masters.
